Welcome and Invocation

Litany for Lent
P O Christ, out of Your fullness we have all received grace upon grace.
You are our eternal hope;
You are patient and full of mercy;
You are generous to all who call upon You.
C Save us, Lord.
P O Christ, fountain of life and holiness,
You have taken away our sins.
On the cross You were wounded for our transgressions
and were bruised for our iniquities.
C Save us, Lord.
P O Christ, obedient unto death,
source of all comfort,
our life and our resurrection,
our peace and reconciliation:
C Save us, Lord.
P O Christ, Savior of all who trust You,
hope of all who die in You,
and joy of all the saints:
C Save us, Lord.
P Jesus, Lamb of God,
C have mercy on us.
P Jesus, bearer of our sins,
C have mercy on us.
P Jesus, redeemer of the world,
C grant us peace.
P God of love,
as in Jesus Christ You gave Yourself to us,
so may we give ourselves to You,
living according to Your holy will.
Keep our feet firmly in the way where Christ leads us;
make our mouths speak the truth that Christ teaches us;
fill our bodies with the life that is Christ within us.
In His holy name we pray.
C Amen.

Readings: Acts 9:10-17 John 10:1-4, 9-10, 16, 27

New Testament Reading: Acts 9:10-17
(Notice the conversational relationship between Jesus and Ananias)
10Now there was a disciple at Damascus named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision, “Ananias.” And he said, “Here I am, Lord.” 11And the Lord said to him, “Rise and go to the street called Straight, and at the house of Judas look for a man of Tarsus named Saul, for behold, he is praying, 12and he has seen in a vision a man named Ananias come in and lay his hands on him so that he might regain his sight.” 13But Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he has done to your saints at Jerusalem. 14And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on your name.” 15But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel. 16For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.” 17So Ananias departed and entered the house. And laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus who appeared to you on the road by which you came has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”
A This is the Word of the Lord.
C Thanks be to God.

The Holy Gospel according to St.John, the tenth chapter.
C Glory to You, O Lord.
1“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. 2But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.
9I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. 10The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
16And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.
27My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
P This is the Gospel of the Lord.
C Praise to You, O Christ.

Prayer of the Day

Prayer of the Day
L Heavenly Father, You have sent Your own Son to be our Shepherd
C and we are like sheep under His care.
L Even now our Shepherd calls us.
C Teach us to know His voice.
L He is with us to guide us, that we might have life abundantly.
C Help us to listen to His voice.
L Then we will follow confidently where He leads
C seeking the lost, healing the injured, feeding the starving,
L joining with Him in doing Your gracious will.
C O, help us to really hear the voice of our Lord!
L Through the same Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord. He lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now
C and forever. Amen.

Hymn: Lord, Take My Hand and Lead Me

Sermon: Conversational Relationship with God

Apostles’ Creed

C I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Christian Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life T everlasting. Amen.

Prayer of the Church

Offering Prayer
L Merciful Father,
C we offer with joy and thanksgiving what You have first given us-
our selves, our time, and our possessions, signs of Your gracious love.
Receive them for the sake of Him Who offered Himself for us,
Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Confession and Forgiveness

P Return to Me with all your heart, says the Lord, with prayer and fasting, weeping and mourning, with broken and contrite hearts.
C For the Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love.

(Silence for reflection and self-examination)
P Merciful Father, You sent Your Son to save sinners, and I have sinned!
C I have failed to love, even those closest to me, preferring that others serve me.
I have neglected works of mercy,
as though disregard of others fulfilled my duty to them.
I have resisted Your word and the Holy Spirit’s guidance of my heart, presuming that I know better.
I have been enticed by fallen desires, rebelling against You.
O Lord, wash away my sin. Create in me a clean heart, and uphold me with a humble spirit which walks trustingly with You.

P How great is the mercy of God, that we would sin and He would give His beloved Son to die for it. But it’s true! For the sake of Him who died in our place, God does not count our sins against us. Therefore, as a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins in the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit.
C Amen.
