Beautiful Savior (arr. Nancy Raabe)
Welcome and Invocation
Readings: Hebrews 1:1–3; John 2:2–11
Epistle Hebrews 1:1–3
1Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. 3He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
A This is the Word of the Lord.
C Thanks be to God.
Holy Gospel John 2:1-11
P The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the second chapter
C Glory to You, O Lord.
1On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples. 3When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” 4And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” 5His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
6Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. 7Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. 8And he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it. 9When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom 10and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.” 11This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him.
P This is the Gospel of the Lord.
C Praise to You, O Christ.
Confession and Absolution
P Let us come to God, kneeling to confess our sins, seeking His forgiveness.
– Silence to bring to God what is specifically troubling us –
P God, You are the One who searches and knows us.
C You have shown us what is good;
we have seen Your own open-handed, loving ways;
on us You have poured out the Holy Spirit,
yet we have persisted in grasping, I-directed, worldly living.
As a result, we have not been generous, or even just, in our dealings with others,
we’ve often been mean rather than merciful,
and we’ve indulged our selfish flesh rather than obey You.
Forgive our sin
and show us our salvation in the face of Jesus.
P Beloved of God,
Christ became poor that you could be rich;
He died for you so that you would have life, life abundant, life eternal;
you are redeemed by His precious blood; T your sins are forgiven.
Step away from worldly ways now and walk instead in step with the Spirit,
who puts you in touch constantly with the victorious Lord Jesus
and His ways of generosity and mercy.

Hymn: Beautiful Savior
C I believe in one God,
the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth
and of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the only-begotten Son of God,
begotten of His Father before all worlds,
God of God, Light of Light,
very God of very God,
begotten, not made,
being of one substance with the Father,
by whom all things were made;
who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven
and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary
and was made man;
and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate.
He suffered and was buried.
And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures
and ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of the Father.
And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead,
whose kingdom will have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord and giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified,
who spoke by the prophets.
And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church,
I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins,
and I look for the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
